Who we are

At Outdoorhire we deliver outside training and activities to adults and youth groups throughout the UK and worldwide.  All our leaders are fully qualified and maintain current training and best practice to help you gain the best from your experience.

Steve is an International Mountain Leader (UIMLA) based in East Sussex and the French Pyrenees, who guides treks and snowshoeing throughout the UK, Europe and Africa having experience of expeditions both in summer and winter including the Alps, Pyrenees, Himalaya, Patagonia and Greenland.  He also deliver NNAS Navigation courses, NNAS Tutor Award, Climbing on Southern Sandstone as well as CPD workshops to the outdoor industry.

Allan is a qualified Mountain Leader and climbing instructor who has been delivering the Duke of Edinburgh Award for over 20 years, he is passionate about the environment and the human impact on the planet and carries the ‘Leave No Trace Trainer Certification’ with The Centre of Outdoor Ethics, guiding and supporting both young people and adults of all abilities with what he describes as Outside Learning.  He regularly delivers and assess National Navigation Award Scheme courses (NNAS) at Bronze, Silver and Gold Levels.  

Since 2014 he has been leading Mountain Biking on the Downs and has the BSCA Mountain Biking Leaders Award as well as being a qualified wilderness first aider.  He is a British Canoeing Paddle Sport coach, coaching and leading on the rivers in the South East as well as delivering Archery sessions as a qualified Archery Leader.

Nigel is qualified teacher holding a PGCE (1996) in outdoor education from Bangor University, N. Wales  and a MA (Education) from Brunel University. Aside from outdoor education Nigel has taught geography, PE, ICT and has been an instructor and coach for many years across a range of disciplines including MLS, RCI, BCU Coach, NNAS tutor/assessor, Archery GB L1 coach, ESCA MTB leader, 1st Aid Instructor, RYA day skipper and safety boat driver.

Nigel has been delivering DofE and assessing DofE expeditions for more than a decade, as well as leading trekking expeditions for schools to the Himalayas, Andes, and High Atlas. Nigel has also led climbing residentials for schools in New Zealand and the UK. Currently Nigel divides his time between being a part-time geography HoD in a 6th form college, co-director of Outdoorhire Ltd, Director of FAST (first aid services and training), and a freelance instructor. A dedicated educator Nigel is passionate about the environment and helping others become more confident in accessing it safely and sustainably, so that everyone can continue to enjoy our beautiful planet both now and into the future. Nigel is a keen trekker, mountaineer and climber and you will find him climbing onto the top of something any chance he gets.

All our leaders and instructors hold a current Wilderness First Aid qualification,  NNAS Tutor Award and are fully insured for the environment they work in.
